Year of the Wood Snake

In 2025, the Chinese Lunar New Year begins on Wednesday 29 January and lasts until the Lantern Festival on Wednesday 12 February, with the rising of the full ‘snow moon’.

Why the Green Yin Wood Snake?
The Chinese zodiac features a 12-year cycle of animals. Each zodiac year also incorporates one of five elements – Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, or Water – creating a 60-year cycle. So, while the animal repeats every 12 years, the element changes from yang to yin and to the next element or phase every 2 years. Thus the animal and the element together repeat only every 60 years. For example, the last ‘Year of the Wood Snake’ was in 1965, my sister’s birth year.

Predictions for the year ahead?
Wood represents action. 2025 is great for this since there is so much inherent strength and desire with which to follow through. Wood generates fire, making this a robust year for achieving creative projects. However, the fire element can be explosive, i.e. fueling the fire due to intense emotions; thus, be mindful of interactions with others.

The Snake’s innate wisdom, paired with the grounding yin energy of the Wood, will help you face obstacles with grace and humility. Practising mindfulness and not shying away from seeking support from your friends and family will take you a long way. Lastly, the zodiac animal represents adaptability, urging you to be open to new experiences that will help you thrive in unpredictable situations.

  • Career: The snake is tenacious, and 2025 is good year to seek out what you want and work diligently to attain it. A well-thought-out strategy for the year is recommended, and the snake has patience, which will serve you well in your accomplishments.
  • Relationships:  We must realize our interconnectedness with the human family and approach others with warmth and openness. This will enable you to prosper and achieve your goals.
  • Health/Wellness: The Wood Snake encourages you to pay attention to your body’s signals, and adopt a healthy lifestyle that prioritises your mental well-being too.
